Arcadia Publishing's Postcard History Series
Presents
"Clearfield" By Julie Rae Rickard
Clearfield brings to life a time when carriages
traveled the streets, lumber was floated down the river,
William Jennings Bryan visited Curwensville, the "Alley
Popper" railway was running, and people were enjoying
fine dining and dancing at the Dimeling Hotel. Postcards,
once a convenient and easy way to communicate,
inadvertently became a great way of preserving history.
Through the cards of this exciting new collection, we are
able to witness many moments in Clearfield history
including World War I soldiers marching down Market
St., the 1936 flood, the collapse of the Nichols Street
Bridge and the aftermath of the Opera House Fire.
Author Julie Rae Rickard compiled this group of
postcards using the resources of the Clearfield County
Historical Society and with the assistance of local
postcard collectors.
Proceeds from the book support the Clearfield
County Historical Society.
