An Interview with
Julie Rae Rickard
Where did you get the idea for "The Destiny of Miro?"

From a dream. The first part of the story when Miro's father is threatening him to the part when he
arrives at Lera's farm, was all a dream. When I woke up, I thought, "What would happen to that boy?"
The story developed from there.

Why the name "Miro" (pronounced Myro)?

It was the boy's name in the dream. It took me quite a while to realize that the name had a deeper
meaning. The destiny of my road. Miro.

You explore a variety of spiritual themes in the book.

I started reading about various religions when I was about eleven. There are many similar ideas
and themes that run through all religious texts. I wanted to illustrate that in "The Destiny of Miro". I
never was one to condemn anyone for their religious or spiritual beliefs. It is my thought that God has
given us many ways to find him. We should have more patience with people who are on different
paths. We are here to encourage and support each other, not criticize. Keeping an open mind and
trusting your heart, I feel, is the only true way to touch God.

Reincarnation and karma is important to this story. Do you recall any of your past lives?

More than I like to admit to! I've not always been enlightened. I'm not proud of some of the
things I've done in my other lives. But it is a part of me and part of my learning cycle.

How did you start to remember?

With some of my lives I've always remembered. Others have been triggered by something I've
read or seen about different time periods, or by dreams.
What's interesting is that I was "into" all this long before it was accepted by our society. It was
such a relief to me when people like Shirley MacLaine came forward with similar ideas. For a few
years, like Miro, I thought I was nuts. No one else I knew dreamed of living as other people in other
times. Today people try to learn about their past lives.

Do you think everyone should investigate their past lives?

Absolutely not! Only if it is currently effecting your situation as with Miro, or if you have a phobia
or relationship problem that can be helped by uncovering the past. If you try to dig up things just for
the sake of knowing about your past, you are opening a Pandora's box. It's not "fun" to know about
your past lives. You may just dredge up things that you have overcome, and "re-infect" yourself with
past traumas.
Please don't take this stuff lightly. There is a reason most people do not remember. On the
other hand, if you do remember, there is probably something in those memories that you should deal
with.

Do you have a soul mate relationship?

I think everyone I have a relationship with is a "soul mate". That's friends, lovers, co-workers,
brothers, sisters, etc. Heather and Miro are more than just soul mates. They are twin flames which is
why their relationship is so close yet complex. Most people don't meet their twin flames because the
relationships are difficult to handle. There is so much light and energy with a twin flame that it is easy
to get burned.
Heather and Miro came together in a previous life before they were spiritually ready and became
locked in a karmic situation that they need to resolve. Therefore, they spend more lives together than
the average twin flames.
It's important to remember you can have a strong connection with someone without them being
your twin flame. But once you meet your twin flame, you'll never feel the same about love.

Have you met your twin flame?

We meet often, in dreams and I remember him from the past. We're not together. He's still "out
there" somewhere.

Will there be a sequel to "The Destiny of Miro"?

Yes, eventually. I have an idea for a story I'm outlining now. It will be called, "The Search for
Miro". In it, a dying Heather will send their teenage son out to bring Miro back to her. This basically
will be the spiritual journey of Louis, who is the reincarnation of Miro's beloved brother, Nicky.
There is also a possibility that I will write about this relationship in another time period. That
story may feature a gender switch with Miro's soul as the female and Heather as the male.
