Julie Rae Rickard was first published at the tender age of eight when a short essay she
wrote about her cat, Tiger, was printed in a school newspaper. Since that time she has written
numerous stories, novels, poems, songs, plays and screenplays. Currently she is a court
correspondent for the Courier-Express newspaper in DuBois, PA.
Her most recent project is the local history book, "Around Curwensville" from the Images of
America series which was published by Arcadia Publishing in 2007. This is the third local history book
Julie has penned. The others are "Clearfield County" also form Arcadia's Images of America series
and "Clearfield" from Arcadia's Postcard History series. In addition, for the 2004 Clearfield County
bicentennial, Julie wrote, produced and directed a play, "Hidden Treasures: A History of Clearfield
County".
Her short story, "The Christmas Stocking" was featured in "Christmas in My Heart 11" released
in the fall of 2002. It was originally published in the Christmas 1999 issue of "War Cry", the Salvation
Army magazine. Editor, Marlene Chase, called it "a beautiful story with classic features. It will be
remembered for a long time."
In 2001, Julie interviewed Shirley MacLaine for a cover story for "Natural Beauty and Heath" from
the publishers of "Magical Blend" magazine. The article was reprinted in the French magazine
"l'essentiel" in March 2002.
With "The Destiny of Miro", published in 2000, she combined her writing ability with her interest
in spiritual studies. (For more of Julie's thoughts on "The Destiny of Miro", click on the below link to
our interview with Julie.)
In addition to her fiction, she has written many articles as a newspaper reporter and as
a free lance writer has written for the sport newspapers "Viking Update" and "Shout! (The Buffalo
Bills newspaper)". For several years she published her own fan club newsletter for the Bee Gees.
("Mo Time" was retired in 1988.) She was also on the staff of BGQ (Bee Gees Quarterly).
Her other interests include reading (favorite authors: Ray Bradbury, Jules Verne, Stephen King,
Anne Rice; favorite subjects: different religions, anything spiritual, new age, history); spending time
with close friends and family; traveling; walking; yoga; doing tarot card readings; NFL football;
watching movies (favorites: "Planet of the Apes", "Jurassic Park", "Jaws", "Contact", "Monty
